Who is responsible
Truth to Live By is an independent publishing project operated by Mark Walsh in Ireland. Mark Walsh is the data controller. Privacy questions, requests and concerns can be sent to [email protected] or through the Contact page.
The website and hosting
This is a static website. It does not create visitor accounts and does not include an advertising tracker, analytics service or website contact form. Fonts, thumbnails and illustrations are served with the site. The site does not deliberately set cookies or local-storage identifiers before a visitor chooses to play a YouTube video.
Cloudflare hosts, delivers and protects the website. In doing so, Cloudflare may process technical request information such as an IP address, requested URL, date and time, browser or device information, and security signals. This processing is necessary to deliver and secure the site and supports the legitimate interest in operating a reliable publication. Truth to Live By does not currently use Cloudflare Web Analytics or receive individual visitor profiles.
Playing videos
Before Play is pressed, video thumbnails are served locally and no YouTube player connection is made. Pressing Play loads YouTube’s privacy-enhanced player and connects the visitor’s browser to YouTube. Google and YouTube can then receive technical and playback information and may use browser storage. Privacy-enhanced mode does not make playback anonymous. Closing a video removes its player.
The newsletter
The One Truth to Live By newsletter is provided through beehiiv. Where the embedded signup form is enabled, the visitor’s browser may connect to beehiiv as the newsletter section approaches the viewport, before an email address is submitted. Beehiiv may then receive technical request information such as the visitor’s IP address, browser or device details, requested form and referring page. The website does not receive the email address directly. Submitting the form sends the address to beehiiv, and Truth to Live By and beehiiv process the address, subscription and confirmation status, and the technical, acquisition and engagement information that beehiiv records for operating the newsletter. When the embedded form is disabled, the newsletter link opens the Truth to Live By publication on beehiiv.
Newsletter messages are sent on the basis of consent. A subscriber can withdraw consent at any time by using the unsubscribe link in an email or contacting Truth to Live By. Active subscriber information is kept while the subscription continues. After unsubscription, information is deleted or anonymised when it is no longer needed, except for the minimum suppression or compliance record required to honour the unsubscribe request and meet legal obligations.
Contact correspondence
The Contact page opens the visitor’s email application to write to the dedicated Truth to Live By Gmail address. The website does not receive or store the message itself. Google processes correspondence sent to that mailbox. Correspondence is used to respond to an enquiry, consider a correction or manage a requested professional relationship. The legal basis is the legitimate interest in responding and maintaining appropriate records, or steps requested before entering an agreement where applicable. Correspondence is normally deleted within 24 months after the last substantive contact unless it is still needed for the relationship or a legal obligation.
The owner-operated publishing application
Truth to Live By uses a private publishing application to manage approved content for its official channels. It is not a service offered to website visitors. Its Google OAuth connection is authorised by the channel owner and is used to confirm the intended YouTube channel, refresh the authorised session and upload owner-selected videos with their titles, descriptions and related metadata. This supports the legitimate interest in operating the publication securely and preventing uploads to an unexpected channel.
The requested Google OAuth permissions are youtube.upload, used to upload the owner-selected videos and metadata, and youtube.readonly, used to read the authorised channel’s basic identity. The application does not request access to Gmail, Google Drive or unrelated Google Account information.
For these operations, the application processes the authorised YouTube channel identifier and title; OAuth access and refresh credentials; locally selected video files and publishing metadata; and the video identifiers, status and operational responses returned by YouTube. It does not receive the owner’s Google password.
Media and credentials remain in the owner-controlled local publishing environment. They are excluded from the website and source repositories. Publishing state and operational logs are kept separately for each brand. Google information is used only to provide the requested channel-verification and upload functions. It is not sold, used for advertising or shared with unrelated third parties.
Operational publishing logs are retained for 12 months and then deleted. OAuth credentials are retained only while the authorisation remains active and are deleted when they are replaced, revoked or no longer required. Access can be revoked through the authorising Google Account’s security settings. See Publishing system for a plain-language description of the application.
Service providers and international transfers
Cloudflare provides hosting, delivery and security; beehiiv provides the newsletter service; and Google provides Gmail and YouTube. These providers may process information outside Ireland or the European Economic Area. Where required, transfers are protected through an applicable adequacy framework or contractual safeguards such as the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses. Each provider also publishes its own privacy information.
Rights and requests
Depending on the circumstances, applicable data-protection rights may include access, correction, erasure, restriction, objection and portability, along with withdrawal of consent and the right to complain to the Irish Data Protection Commission. Send a request to [email protected]. Identity may need to be confirmed before a request is completed. Requests are handled within the legally applicable period. Following an approved deletion request, locally stored publishing records are deleted within 30 days unless they must be retained to meet a legal obligation.
